Final Race of '08 Points Season Friday, September 12th was the last round of the 15 race "Battle of the Bull Ring" Points Championship at Plaza Park Raceway. A low car count of 20 Super 600's were signed in, creating an alternate format for the night. Instead of the usual qualifying, we raced our way into the main through a heat race. Starting pole of the 2nd heat, I finished 2nd to a strong running Rodney Jared. The 2nd place finish led us to the trophy dash of 6 cars. The trophy dash finishing order would determine how the top 6 lined up for the main. We finished 5th in the dash, putting us 3rd row inside for the main.... The main got off to a rough start for us, and we went backwards before we went forward. Taking advantage of lap traffic, we worked our way back into the top 5 and stayed there for the remainder of the race. A 5th place finish was a good way to end a good season... We finished off the points season in 4th position, picking up a $500 bonus for the year. Kiwi Alexander (Pace Chassis) won the points championship, Mitchell Faccinto (PMP Chassis) followed closely in second, Raio Morgan (PMP Chassis) was 3rd, we (Stallard Chassis) placed 4th, and Dylan Black (KB Chassis) came in 5th. Four different chassis manufactures in the top 5 in points has a lot to say about the competition at Plaza, not to mention the 12 different winners in 15 races... We would like to thank all of our sponsors that helped out in '08 and hope they can come on board again in '09. But the '08 season isn't over for us yet. We have some racing planned for the entire month of October, including some races out of town. Our season will come to a close at the end of November for the Non-Wing race at Plaza. So if you haven't been able to catch any races lately, don't worry we still have a few shows left in the tank! #2 in the Bag
Night 1 of Summer Clash Saturday night was the first night of the two day, two race event. Double points were on the line all weekend long and Saturday we qualified 7th out of 24 cars. We started 3rd in the second heat and finsihed 2nd, making our transfer to the main. The invert for the main was a "0" so we started 7th. The track was really fast, all the way up at the fence all the way around. By lap 15 we were passing for 4th, but got sandwhich into the front straightway wall, by the 4th place car. It was no one's fault, just a racing deal, but it ruined our night. I pulled in, but just as I pulled in a red came out, so we never went a lap down. I jumped out of the car to look things over, found the wheel was bent, and jumped back in the with the help of another driver. Starting at the rear of the line, we worked back up to 12th or 13th at the end.... Sunday is a brand new day and race so we will see how things go! |
